Ok, Christmas is over and New Years Day is just a few days away. Now what is after NYD? For most of the country/world it'd be St. Valentine's Day. But us weirdos in New Orleans are different. This coming year we have MARDI GRAS PARADES mixed in that time with Mardi Gras Day on the 18th of February. Along with the traditional parades there are non-traditionals like the Krewe of Barkus dog themed parade, Krewe of Chewbacchus sci-fi themed parade (and actual religion) , satirical parades, shoe and purse themed parades, kids and boat parades. Who knows what else is out there. If you're not in town during early Feb. make plans to be. http://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/schedule.html

I wonder if lawyers go crazy around this time of year. I mean, with people singing Christmas songs all over the place they must be going, "Is that song still under copyright? They are doing a public performance by singing out loud for others to hear."

We were at my moms today when I noticed a butterfly near the ground slowly flapping its wings. Ends up that it had just hatched from a chrysalis and it was drying its wings. Of course I layed on the ground to get some nice photos of the wings spread out when it decided to keep them closed. I was able to get it to hold on to my finger and bring it up for a photos when it flow off into the crepe myrtle for a miniute then away for good. I'll miss the time I had with you Mr/Miss Butterfly. *sniff* Now I have something caught in my eye. *sniff*

So it looks like we have heat for tonight. Almost had too much heat earlier. Seems like while they were removing the old "Freon" lines from the outer wall the guy had a hard time removing a section. (The section ended up having some major kinks in it and they were surprised any "Freon" was moving through it at all.) I guess he was cutting it with a cutting torch and some of the wall insulation got hot and it was smoldering. But nobody really noticed it until some smoke was smelled. Long story-short, they had to spray the hose down the wall to put it out. Of course that leads to water in my closet and could lead to mold in the wet wall. Now we have an empty closet with one wall torn out, a bed full of closet items and have to wait till tomorrow for them to come back and patch the wall. BUT, we do have airflow in the kitchen now. I mentioned that we never had anything coming out the register there and they looked at it and corrected the problem!!! I guess I better see about cleaning off some of the bed so at least one of us can get some sleep. lol

Getting new A/C system installed. Slight problem. Need my closet emptied in the process. No room to place everything. Emergency "garage sale" needed I have a bunch of Stephen King books that need to go. Hard and soft covers. Dinner ask if I have this or that, I probably do. Other items when we get a chance to go thru them. Honestly need a shed and a second job.

Since, to me at least, it's officially Christmas Season I've changed my profile and cover photos to reflect that. Both were taken from 2008 when it snowed on December 11th. And to think that Lisa, at first, didn't want to come out and see it.

I'm glad I checked out everyone elses food pics AFTER I stuffed myself. Had a nice day at moms with Lisa Ladyquilter Smit and my sister. Then a nap. Then dessert. Now we are home with some thankful pests. I mean PETS.

If anyone has Uverse starting on the Thursday the 27th through Sunday the 30th (yes Thanksgiving weekend) they are going to have the Uverse 450 package open. That is basically all the movie channels including HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc. Unfortunately they won't let me set the DVR to record stuff just yet. Probably because the stations are still locked. But I do have reminders set on my phone to try again on Thursday.

I'm glad I don't do drugs or who knows what I'd dream up. #walkingdead This is what happens when I think. A few episodes ago there was mention of riding bikes. Today the thought of them only finding "bikes built for two" popped into my head. Then of course thoughts wandered around to the characters riding bikes and this is what I got. The mind is a dangerous thing.

Anybody want any firewood? Still green though. I cut down one maple tree in the backyard today. Nobody got hurt and if there was any damage it was minor and to the shed the tree was up against. I used an electric pole saw that worked mighty nice. Since the tree was about 30 feet high I had to cut bigger sections down than I would have liked. Then cut those sections smaller and drag them to the street. Another weekend I'll try to get to the other maple. It's probably 40 feet up and leaning more and more towards the house.

So I got a letter from my homeowners insurance agent: "We have reviewed a memo from (mega-bucks insurance company) which needs your immediate attention. Due to a standard property inspection of this risk, they noticed miscellaneous personal items were strewn across the property near the side of the dwelling. Please submit color photos to our office prior to 11/5/14 showing that the areas of concern were attended to." Can they be a little more specific about the "personal items" that were "STREWN" near the side of the house? Everything we own would be "personal items" Strewn definition: scatter or spread (things) untidily over a surface or area. Without knowing what was strewn I don't know if I un-strewed it or not. I have two sides of the house, a left and a right. The right side has a 6 foot wooden fence blocking the view it. Pretty much the same with the left but we have a 6 foot wooden gate. Nothing could be seen behind it unless someone would peer over or through it like a peeping Tom. The only thing I can think of might be our driveway right by the house. In that little "patio" we have some patio furniture and potted plants. I'm thinking it might be "retaliation" by the insurance company for asking about possibly having the covering the A/C that broke during a major power roller coaster. Maybe I should just send a picture of a random part of the side of the house since they weren't very specific? Maybe they are mistaking Halloween decorations for strewed personal items.

Yesterday: replaced relay for car A/C fan, seems to work. Oktoberfest, 3 litres of good beer and some German food, music and fun. Next year probably longer stay, more beer and more food. Today: slept late (sort of, whiny dog). Cuban Reuben at Dot's Diner, might as well go international two days in a row, dead battery in car, got jump started, bought new battery, car has rough idle at times, better not be more bad news, bought Halloween costume stuff, if not enough time to finish rest of it I have a fallback costume. Tonight: The Walking Dead

Cars blower motor was stuck ON even when the car was shut off. I found a relay that was burnt up. Not sure if anything else is bad but I shouldn't get a dead battery now. Just no A/C or heat till I get a new one. Lowest price I could find so far is $46.

So we park at Arby's in Metairie this afternoon. While inside I look out and see my car with the rusty roof. Wait a minute, that's not my car, my car is two spaces over. Now I want to get a photo of both Corollas with rusty roofs. But while eating the owner of the other car drives off before I could get the shot. But wait, there's more!!! As we go to leave there's another Corolla with a rusty roof in the parking lot. Hmmmm, there has to be something wrong with the paint jobs on these cars. But, like overheating ignitions and exploding gas tanks, there's nothing going to be done unless a bunch of people die.

Oil (full synthetic) and filter changed. Why does it seem that shops want to use impacts on everything? Including the oil filter!!! *SMH* Tires rotated. Going to need new ones soon. As well as brakes and struts. Going to a shop would have been about $60-100 and taken who knows how long. DIY in 2 hours or so for under $30. I'm worn out but I don't have to do that for another few months or 7,500 miles, whichever comes first.

Might as well go to bed and read some more of the MAD Magazine that I won recently. One of my entries in the What The Heck Is It contest was picked and another entry was mentioned in the Daily Giz Wiz podcast. I've always liked MAD Magazine since I was a youngster and couldn't wait to find all the "marginals". As a kid I didn't get all the jokes in the magazine but I did get a good bit of them and it's made me into what I am today. Therefore I think we should ban MAD Magazine from all bookstands immediately. Just kidding, I think more people should read it and enjoy the lighter side of life for a change.

Came home to see Lisa's brake lights on for no reason. Found out that a little piece of plastic on the brake switch, under the dash, broke and the car thinks someone is constantly stepping on the brakes. That means tomorrow will be a fun day of contorting myself under her dash to see what can be done. For now all brake lights are disconnected and hopefully the battery won't run down overnight.

Ever drive down the Interstate and have part of your car start to fall off and before you can stop it does fall off and then you roll over it? We did earlier. Good thing it was just the inner fender liner. I knew the right side needed some repair but the left side completely surprised. I think running through the puddles after this afternoons rains loosened them and hitting 60 completed the job. Now to order the correct parts with complete parts.

After a long week after a long, but still short, vacation I have lots to do but too tired to do it. We did have a nice dinner with Barry Cantin thanking him for watching the cats while we were gone. I'll eventually get the lawn cut, COG photos from last night up, and many old slide scans for TBT's onto Facebook. Also a visit to mom, car/house work/repairs are needed. Since I only have one day left with the weekend I still need to find a clone of myself. But since I don't have the time for that........ Oy vey!

I think McKenzie's (because they are local) should do a commercial with a closeup of someone, not revealed yet, dunking a donut in coffee. Then someone throws a flag on the table. Wide shot reveals Jimmy Graham shaking his head.

Lots of driving this past week. I'm sure it was well over 2,000 miles. Stayed in some decent hotels for a decent price and stayed in some not so decent hotels for about the same. Last place was $45 and the walls needed to first coat of paint finished. I think they might have started over a year ago. Lot's of good food eaten. Thai, Dickey's Barbecue Pit, Tim Horton's, Bob Evans, Bavarian, Cracker Barrel, etc. Went to Frankenmuth, Mi for a taste of Bavarian shopping and Bronner's Mega Wonderland Worlds Largest Christmas Store. That place can make you like and/or hate Christmas. Yup, nothing says "Merry Christmas" more than a T-Rex tree ornament. Also took a side trip to see Abraham Lincoln's birthplace. I'll post some photos later. Ohio and Kentucky must be doing well financially since Interstate 75 was being worked on ALL OVER. The weather was nice. Lows almost in the 50's when we first got there. After a few days it was more like nice in the shade and you could feel the rays in the sun. The Corolla ran great. I was getting tank MPGs in the high 30's. Best was 38. I'm sure it'd be lower if I'd kept the speed below 70. But 35 MPG at 80 MPH with the A/C on isn't bad. Gas prices were a little higher in most places. Ohio and Michigan were probably the worst. One spot the diesel was lower than regular. The trucks up there have like 15 axles and are quite intimidating. Speaking of trucks. Ever see an 18 wheeler with those BIG FAT tires instead of the two smaller ones? Ever see the big ones blown out in the middle of your lane while doing 70+. Those things are HUGE. I've been using T-Mobile for my cell phone and as long as I was in a BIG city it was fine. Once I got on the Interstate I might as well have had the phone turned off. Talk about crappy service out there. sheesh. Might have to upgrade to Cricket. At least the hotels and some restaurants had free WiFi. I need to get more vacation time, and money, so we can really enjoy a long trip like that. And a big thanks goes out to Barbara for taking care of Liam and Barry for taking care of the cats. They are all happy that their people are back. Oh, and since I was away from Facebook for a good bit of the trip I might have missed some good post so if y'all don't mind can you please repost the good stuff for me?
On the way up here we passed by Lima, OH. I've always wondered how it was pronounced, like the bean or like the city in Peru. With the radio on I heard a few people say the towns name. Now I know that it's pronounced Lima like I figured it was.

Lawnmower repaired. Original problem of it not starting was air filter was soaking wet from all the rain. Thee the string popped. Then return spring broke. Replaced thingy today. Hard to pull string. Why? DUH! Wasn't holding down brake release. Started up but with wet air filter was just puttering along. After cutting grass for a few minutes it finally got up to speed. At least the front is cut now. 9 years for a propelled walk behind mower isn't THAT old, is it?

Tried to have a relaxing evening mowing the lawn only to have the string pop and then during repair have the return spring break. Ordering new part would take too long before trip. Probably have to get one from Houma. Oh the fun of home ownership.

Cleared the code that was in the Corolla and it hasn't popped up yet. It was a P0420 I think. According to the Haynes manual it's a Catalytic Converter System Fault. I'll look into it and see if it's common and in the mean time hope that it doesn't come back. Power door locks in the front would be next repair.

One of the few problems I have with the new Corolla is the A/C wasn't blowing cool air when I was stopped at lights. Quick research and similar problems say it's the radiator fan now working properly. I got outside, pop the hood, look at the fan, spin it by hand then notice something odd. There were no cables going to the fan. Hmmm, I wonder if that's the problem.... After a quick look around the engine compartment I see the cable was laying loose right by the fan. What might have happened was the supports to hold the cable broke and the connection wiggled loose. I plug the fan back in and start the engine. TADA! Fan works, A/C is cool at idle, I am happier now that I know I should have decent A/C in the car. Now to look at the Check Engine Light that came on earlier.

I was watching The Matrix earlier. Ever notice the heros and villans in action movies always seem to withstand anything thrown at them taking all kinds of pain like it's nothing. But what amazes me is that with all this superhuman strength they still CAN'T HIT THEIR TARGETS WITH A GUN!!!!!!

Even though I was awake early I went back to sleeper that I normally would on a weekday. After that it was grass cutting time while Lisa was pulling weeds in the garden. Cooling down period was sitting on the front bench drinking down some traditional American beer, aka Budweiser, in the cooler than recent breeze. Now to relax.

There's been a mockingbird singing in our backyard, AT NIGHT, for a few weeks now and it's been keeping me awake at times. Reading up on it I find out that it's probably a male looking for a mate. Legally, the only things I can do are wait for it to move on to another area or hope it finds a mate. Does anybody know any single young female mockingbirds that are looking for a hubby? Why do I feel like a pimp now?

Looked more better at car AC today. Long story/short, I can get it to come on if I more a wire harness some. So that means there's a bad connection somewhere and it's probably a ground. Of course everything clumps up in the harness and it's hard to trace. Especially with all the crampyness and dirt around there. Might have to bring it to a garage so they can put it on the rack and work on it better. All that bending over really put a kink in my lower back though. Oh well, at least air filter and cabin air filters are changed. Both are a pain to change. sheesh engineers

Don't you hate the Facebook friends that post 30 comments an hour. Most are shares, some are bogus new articles that they didn't fact check, etc. When checking my newsfeed I hate running into these clumps of crap. Beware my Facebook friends. If you don't cut down on this crap you might get cut from my friends list, reported, blocked or whatever.

So a horse loses a race and the trainer blames it on "fresher" horses? Ummm, did California Chrome run earlier that day? NO! Earlier week? NO! How long does it take horses to recover from a race? Seems like TWO WEEKS isn't enough to have a "fresh horse". Are these horses trained by Lebron James?

Long day. Woke up earlier than I wanted to. Quick repair at moms. Spent whole day at Time Fest 2014. Ran into old high school friend ( Wayne J Schexnayder ) who was dragged there by his kids. I hope they all had a good time. C.O.G. show with full shenanigans. Now to backup and upload pics and videos from the day. Tomorrow I rest.

Tried backyard camping with Lisa tonight. Tent is a little small even though it's a "2 person". Add a hyper dog and mosquitoes by the hundreds trying to get through the netting. After a few hours of not getting sleepy I decided to head inside to the bed. I think 89 of those mosquitoes got me on the way inside. I think I could have dozed off if there were a breeze out there but it's deader than Congress-persons conscious.

Lisa is jealous because she caught me cheating with the neighbor. I was trying to get rid of the stump from the Red Tip that she cut down the other day when our neighbor offered to get his chainsaw. I was like "Sure." (ended up being a pole saw attachment and was a mini chainsaw but still...) Then he offered to cut down the other Red Tip. That's when Lisa caught us in action. Oh well, Red Tips are gone.

Worked my ass off the past two days. I think I'm doing the work of two people and others at work are doing the work of none. So guess it evens out huh. This old body is very sore and trying to type with an attention seeking cat is almost impossible. Might be able to recover for another round of work with some sleep.

Work wore me out this week being that we are still a little shorthanded. Really wanted to see a friends band tonight but passed out when I got home and never could get going again. Lots to do this weekend also. I really need to clone myself or get an andy. (just finished listening to "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", different than the movie and I want to re-watch it now.) I got my copy of the Buckaroo Banzai book and want to read that but am in the middle of another book. Hard to finish it when I fall asleep after a page or two. Oh well, this old man needs bedtime.

In his senility and to prove that Tom Benson likes minorities he donates $5 million to "Team Gleason". After finding out that Steve Gleason is actually white Mr. Benson said, "Well, I care about handicaps also." The above is fiction, I think, and just thought the timing to be strange/funny.

Well, at least the fence is finished even though I didn't get done nearly as much as I wanted this weekend. At least Liam can wander around the backyard without his leash now and I don't have to worry about kids cutting through the yard as much. Maybe next weekend I'll get more done or at least have fun.

Today I went to a big box store to buy some boards to repair my fence, finally. When unloading the truck I mention to Lisa the approximate price I start thinking that it did seem like a low price. heck, the 2x4's would be that much alone. Looking at the receipt I see the "problem". I bought 20 fence boards but the cashier using the handheld scanner only entered it as 2. Hmmmm, 18 boards that normally cost under $2 for free. What to do, what to do? Should I go back and report the under $30 error which would probably cost me $5 in gas? Or should I just hope the error doesn't bankrupt this big box store?

If anybody is looking for a full time job in the oil and gas industry let me know. There are a few people retiring at work and I hear we are looking for some replacements. More than likely it'll be a working in the pipe yard but they might also be looking for a driver. Pipe yard candidate would need to work outside, operate a forklift, cut pipe, load/unload trucks, etc. Driver would make deliveries at customer locations, pull inventory items in the warehouse for orders, load truck, etc. At least a La. Class D "Chauffeur License", DOT health card and TWIC card would be required. They can be obtained later and I'm pretty sure the company would pay then. A CDL would be a PLUS. A CDL A would be a PLUS PLUS. Pay and benefits are decent. Worst part would be working with me. PM me for more information.

French Quarter Fest 2014
We had a nice time seeing "Astral Project" and the "Creole String Beans" at French Quarter Fest this year.
It's a nice fest that spans 4 days with 20+ stages all throughout the French Quarter. It's free admission and the food prices aren't too bad. Check it out if you're in New Orleans this time of year.

A few years ago around Easter time I saw a sign on my street. It said, "Bunnies for sale: $25" I forget the actual price so I'll just make some up. After Easter that was scratched out and underneath it said, "Rabbits for sale: $15" All summer I kept waiting for that to be scratched out and the sign saying, "Rabbit stew: $5/bowl" but that never happened. The sign stayed up there for a few years until today I noticed it was gone. I guess "the rabbit done died".
