By Gil, on July 11th, 2011 How bored can one person get? Well, if it’s me that would be A LOT!!!
For some reason today I thought of The Bermuda Triangle and for some reason I thought… “Why is it a triangle, what if it were another shape?”
So I got to looking at different shapes. Hmm, how about Bermuda Parallelogram? Or Bermuda Quadrilateral? Maybe Bermuda Trapezoid? Then I got to Bermuda Rhombus!!! It has 4 sides that are of equal length and opposite sides are parallel to each other.
I knew that two points of the Bermuda Triangle are Miami, Fl. and Bermuda. But couldn’t think of the third point. After looking at the Wikipedia article listed above I saw that it was normally thought of as Puerto Rico. But I also noticed in the article that the map shows many different points. One common point was in North Carolina. Then my mind started to think of things.
Hmm, Washington, DC is kind of up in that area. One thing lead to another and get this. According to Travel Math the distances from each point are very close.
- Miami, Florida to San Juan, Puerto Rico is: 1,033 miles
- San Juan, Puerto Rico to Bermuda is: 958 miles
- Bermuda to Washington, District of Columbia is: 825 miles
- Washington, District of Columbia to Miami, Florida is: 923 miles
To me that is pretty close and pretty strange. Plus it might explain something about Washington, DC and the politicians that love to spend our money.

By Gil, on July 5th, 2011 Today involved a trip to the Audubon Insectarium with my girlfriend Lisa and her daughter Barbara. It was a pretty nice exhibit that took us about an hour and a half to go through. There were a lot of live and pinned insects. About halfway through is an eating area where you can buy some snacks and drinks. Oh, you can also grab some insects to eat at the Bug Appetit. The Awards Night Immersion Theater they play a little video with some special effects like seats shaking and wind. The Butterflies in Flight Gallery had a bunch of butterflies flying around flowers and food dishes. Unfortunately some of the butterflies didn’t look too healthy and had parts of their wings missing or didn’t want to fly much.
Overall it was a nice trip but at $15.95 for adults and $10.95 for kids I think it could be cheaper. We had half off discounts from Living Social If you’re an Audubon Member then it’s only $5.00 each. So if you’re in the New Orleans, La. area and want to entertain the kids you have a nice option. You make also make an excuse to visit the adjacent French Quarter or Harrah’s Casino.
By Gil, on May 13th, 2011 I recently purchased a Van Hauser Slider and Negative Converter from Daily Steals for about $20. Once I got it in the mail I installed the drivers and photo software according to the instructions provided. With a few slides thrown in I was ready to scan. BUT WAIT!!! I kept getting errors saying that the OVT Scanner couldn’t be found!!! What could be wrong?
On a few message boards I noticed some people with the same problems saying that they got it working by uninstalling other scanner drivers then reinstalling the OVT drivers with various OS’s. I’m using XP Home. Well, I didn’t have another scanner driver to uninstall. (unless you count the HP AIO) After trying a virtual install of Vista with the same results.
Looking through the Device Manager I noticed my TV tuner care was considered a scanner. So I uninstalled the driver, reinstalled the OVT scanner driver and…… IT WORKED!!! It’s not the greatest device in the world but it’ll work for what I need it for.

By Gil, on July 2nd, 2010 I thought up a new game that could be released on Facebook if someone wants to program it. The game is called “PoacherVille”. In this game you would go to your friends FarmVille, FishVille, and FrontierVille and go a huntin’.
Heck you can even go to CafeWorld to get some coffee after an early morning hunt.
Or how about heading to Petville to get some good huntin’ hounds?
Even Treasure Isle would provide some much need jewels and treasures as well as provide a nice island getaway after a long day of runnin’ from the law.
Finally, if you feel that you have too much to do by yourself, go to YoVille and get some cheap slave labor.
